Summerhill got a new route back in December, with the 16D starting on the 3rd. The 16D is principally the same as Route 16, but not serving Shantalla Road, Beaumont Road or Collins Avenue. This allows a much quicker journey time for passengers heading from the Airport. It runs in the morning peak only, in the southbound direction, with every 2nd bus operating from the Airport as Route 16D, and the others operating as Route 16. With this new timetable, the Shanard Road departures via Swords Road were withdrawn, the 1 being brough into Santry in the morning peaks, and the reverse Route 16 departures (Beaumont Rd, Shantalla Road, Swords Road to city/Ballinteer) were also removed from the timetable. For a number of months it was rare to see the 16D display, with many departures still showing Route 16. The display is also unusual looking, in that one of the alternating displays shows "Ballinteer , O'Connell Street", instead of "Ballinteer, via O'Connell Street".
