The first new type in Dublin Bus for a number of years has entered service. The Wright Streetlite WS-class is allocated to Donnybrook for Route 44B. Following a few teething troubles, WS2 was the first to enter service on Friday the 1st December 2017, operating the evening two laps on Route 44B. WV51 did the morning laps that day which may well turn out to be the last WV operation in Dublin Bus. The photos shown here were taken on the first morning of WS2 operation. Overall, the bus is quite modern inside and very comfortable compared to the aging WV-class. The power of the 5-litre Mercedes engine is also quite noticeable. On an outbond departure WS2 met an oncoming car on the steepest part of Barnaculia and had to stop. It had no trouble getting going again and climbed the hill with ease.

There was great excitement from passengers at "their new bus". The 44B is truely a community service, a service that would have long since ceased if Dublin had a fully private bus service. WS1 and WS2 will be a great upgrade for these people. Currently WS2 is tracking as WV22 on the system (Bus number 28022), something that one would assume will change quickly. Given the SG-class is type 44, the WS-class should be type 45 one would imagine. Finally, a special thank you must be made to the driver of WS2 for being so accomodating.
