Photo of the Week - Week 42:

Harristown's recently acquired AV321 is seen on Route 31D having just arrived at DCU on Friday 21st October 2016.

There had been a shortage of new routes until recently, but on Monday 17th October four new services hit Dublin's streets, along with a commitment for more extras on a number of Dublin's principle bus corridors. The four routes are operated by four "Universal" duties, three operating from Harristown serving DCU, and a further duty based in Conyngham Road. This week focuses on the new DCU services.

Harristown's SG53 is seen loading for its evening service to Dunboyne at DCU on the 21st October 2016.

The three new Harristown routes are 31D, 42D and 70D. The 31D and 42D basically constitute a split version of the former, pre economic depression, Route 105. The 31D operates as per the former Route 105 from Baldoyle to DCU via Howth Road and Collins Avenue, though now can avail of the new DCU terminus. Route 42D serves Portmarnock, Malahide and Seabury like the 105 also did, but its routing from the Malahide area is more direct than previously, with buses continuing from Seabury via Holywell to the M1, M50, before exiting at the Ballymun exit, serving Ballymun on route to DCU. The 70D is a brand new concept linking Dunboyne and DCU, serving Clonee, Blanchardstown Village, Castleknock, Navan Road, Cabra and Glasnevin.

Harristown's recently acquired AV322 is seen having just operated Route 42D from Strand Road Portmarnock to DCU on the 21st October 2016.

The universals stick to the same routes, with the morning 31D being a 31D in the evening. The universals then operate into the city as a short service along the Ballymun Road corridor (well at least the 31D and 42D buses do). On Friday the 21st October, the 31D bus AV321 did a 4C into the city, while at exactly the same time, the 42D bus AV322 did a 13C to the city.

Harristown's AX500 is seen loading for its evening service to Baldoyle on the 21st October 2016.

With the delivery of Donnybrook's 2016 batch of SG buses, Harristown has acquired AV321-AV326 and AV328 for new services. These buses are typically rostered to the DCU services in the morning peak, with anything then appearing in the evening. The final new Universal from Conyngham Road will have to appear on these pages in the future. The morning service operates new Route 68X from Newcastle to Fleet Street via the Nangor Road, while in the evening it operates the two new 25D services which also began on the 17th October 2016.

Harristown's AV378 is seen at the DCU terminus of Route 42D about to depart for the Strand Road on the 21st October 2016.
